Perils of Pregnancy

As many of my few readers have already heard, Maris was briefly hospitalized again yesterday after she noticed some bleeding. We spent about four hours in the labor and delivery department of St. Mary's hospital (http://www.stmarygj.org/services/womens/default.htm). Everyone there was helpful. Another ultrasound was performed, along with other examinations. Maris was attached to the fetal monitor for several hours as well.

At this point, the doctors have been unable to determine with any certainty what is causing the intermittent bleeding. Maris is fine and the baby is fine. She is growing appropriately and weighs nearly five pounds now. The ultrasound shows no hemorrhaging and while we there the bleeding came to an end. It has not resumed. To try to prevent a recurrence, Maris has been instructed to stay home and try to lie down most of the time.

For now, our plans to travel to Denver this weekend for a baby shower are on hold. Tomorrow Maris's regular doctor is expected to make a final decision on that trip. The weather is not helping matters as western and central Colorado are experiencing a significant snow storm. We both hope that we are able to make the trip, but time will tell. If we're not able to go, we will reschedule the shower for the spring and then we'll bring the baby along. Please keep Maris in your thoughts these next few weeks.
